Her father, Odin, gives his eye to the Norn [Fate] Urda at the Well of Memory in exchange for receiving knowledge of the future, only to see that the future is Ragnarok, the death of the Gods. Odin makes his daughter Brynehilde into a mortal woman and puts her into a deep sleep in a ring of fire. She is awakened by the hero, Siegfried.
